International Ceramics Exchange returns to San Francisco!

ICEX:2024 invites six renowned Korean ceramic artists to share their unique processes, knowledge, and techniques at SOMArts Cultural Center and will offers guests the opportunity to engage with the artists through short demonstrations and presentations by each artist.

Invited artists:
Kim YoungSoo, Kim InTae, Kim JaeBeom, Shin YoungTaek, Lee SangHun and Lee JinWook.

Collectively, they will spotlight and enrich the understanding of Korean ceramics, showcasing their artistry and processes, both traditional and contemporary. Their areas of specialty include Naked Raku, Buncheong, Traditional Coil & Throw, Porcelainware, Cobalt Painting, Sanggam, Korean Traditional woodfire techniques.

Schedule of Events:

March 29, Friday night reception (6-8 pm): Free and open to the public, featuring a meet-and-greet and exhibition of the artists' works.

March 30/31, Saturday and Sunday artist presentations (11am-4 pm):
Saturday and Sunday, March 30 and 30, 2023, 11am-4pm.
Weekend events include open demonstration by the artists within the main gallery. Spotlight demonstrations and presentations by each artists will be scheduled throughout the day.

Demonstrations include:
Saturday and Sunday will be an event filled days of seeing artists work in an open space within the gallery. Additional spotlight schedule is planned for each artist to demonstrate. Each spotlight demonstration will last about 45 minutes and 3 artists will present each day..

- Stack and Throw Large Moon Jar
- Teapot Making
- Korean Tea Service Demo
- Traditional Korean Throwing Techniques
- Naked Raku and Saggar Firing Techniques (no firings)
- 7 Ways of the Korean Buncheong Method
- On-going video presentation of traditional Korean kiln building

Saturday Demonstrations: Shin YoungTaek, Kim YoungSoo, and Kim InTae.
Sunday Demonstrations: Kim JaeBeom, Lee SanHun, Lee JinWook

General Admission Tickets: $75 pre-sale. ($100 after 3/15/2024)

Korean inspired meal sponsored and prepared by Ondam Restaurant, Santa Clara, in a souvenir ceramic dish set is designed & made by Miki Shim and Kyungle Han, event producers. Souvenir ceramic dishes has been custom designed for this event and will be wrapped for the attendee to keep. RSVP requested.
